Action Youth Media announces that Anna MacLachlan is stepping down from her position as Executive Director at the end of November. Since joining in 2018, MacLachlan has led Action Youth Media, formerly Gandhi Brigade Youth Media, through the build-out and transition into our  current home in the Silver Spring Library building, the  recent name change, and the COVID-19 crisis. Her leadership and dedication has been imperative to the organization through turbulent times, and her commitment to Action Youth Media’s youth storytellers, organizational diversity, and the pursuit of justice through arts and activism have been truly inspiring.

Since the end of the COVID-19 lockdown, classes have thrived in person, and this year Action Youth Media’s fall Season Showcase film screening has been able to return to the big screen at the American Film Institute (AFI Silver).

MacLachlan is leaving behind a strong mission and vision for Action Youth Media’s future. The board of directors are thrilled for her next adventure and for the future potential of Action Youth Media that MacLachlan has helped to build.

The Board of Trustees of Action Youth Media will be posting a listing for the job of Executive Director and hopes to fill the position by Spring 2024. As MacLachlan departs at the end of November, the Board is in the process of identifying and appointing an Interim Executive Director to oversee operations and to support the staff during the search and transition.

Action Youth Media is a media education nonprofit 501(c)(3), located in Silver Spring, Maryland which offers classes to middle and high schoolers across Montgomery County and beyond. We provide inclusive spaces where young people can find their unique voices, gain self-confidence, and learn the media skills they need to be thriving community members. Our vision is a world where young people shape communities of respect and diversity.
