PROMOTERS Spring Break 2020! -

Spring Break 2020 has been cancelled. Check back for Spring Break 2021. 

 Summer DOCS - Media Arts Apprenticeship Program 

Summer 2020: July 13 through August 22, 2020

2021 Applications Will Open December 1, 2020

 

Summer DOCS is a 5-week summer apprenticeship program. Apprentices receive a stipend for the program. Writers, actors, filmmakers, and graphic designers age 15 to 18 living in District of Columbia, Montgomery County, and Prince George's County are eligible to apply. Program is 20 hours per week. Apprentices work with instructors to create and participate in community service projects (virtually) and document their projects through short videos, graphic designs, social media posts, etc. Students will help raise awareness about COVID-19 relief efforts and help promote the efforts of GBYM partner organizations working on the front lines providing essential services.

The Montgomery County Youth Media Festival showcases media arts produced by youth.  Youth can win prizes as well as the chance to have their films screened at Festival events.

Competition 2021 will launch online in December 2020. Stay tuned.

 Partnership with Montgomery Housing Partnership- FLOW Program

Future Leaders of the World(FLOW) is an after-school activities program for middle school students. The program provides a safe space for middle school students who reside in MHP affiliated neighborhoods. Gandhi Brigade provides two remote program locations at Pembridge Square Apartments in Wheaton, MD and Sligo View Apartments in Takoma Park, MD.

 

Through MHP and FLOW, GBYM provides instructors and video production equipment for participants to explore their creativity through video projects, including music videos, public service announcements, and short documentaries.

Partnership with CASA  - Mi Espacio 

Mi Espacio is an after school leadership and enrichment at CASA for Latino high school students in Baltimore City and Langley Park. The program strives to build the next generation of Latino youth leaders by combining academic support with life skills including workforce development, financial literacy and health education, with civic leadership development and social justice training, including public speaking, advocacy, conflict resolution, antiracism training, and community service.

Through the Mi Espacio Program, GBYM provides instructors and video production equipment for participants to explore their creativity through video projects, including music videos, public service announcements, and short documentaries.

Partnership with Crittenton Services - Goal Setting Girls 

Goal Setting Girls is a 28-week curriculum that focuses on social and emotional learning for sixth and seventh-grade girls from lower income families. This two-year program is designed to promote the development of skills that are essential to achieving academic, career and life success. The goal of the program is to empower participating girls to succeed in middle school, high school, and college.
