Summer DOCS Program 2024
for grade 8 through grade 12
Create a short film this summer with the Action Youth Media team at the studio in downtown Silver Spring.

Applications are being reviewed on a rolling basis starting February 1.
Final date to apply is April 30.
We will notify students selected by May 10.

*Parents must provide a signed permission form at least once per calendar year for students under 18.*
​
Apprentices from past summers are not eligible to re-apply.
CAlendar and compensation
Apprenticeships (Intermediate skill level)

June 26 through August 17 (four weeks)

Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays

12noon to 4pm Thurs and Fri

12noon to 2pm, Saturdays
Grade levels eligible:
Rising 9th grade through 12th grade.

Candidates must have completed intermediate training in film/media. (at school, in one of our programs, at a job, or online)
Pay is $15 per hour.

Action Youth Media is a non-profit organization that creates communities where young people build the confidence and media skills to express themselves and to promote community building, multi-cultural understanding, and the common good. www.youthmediamd.org for more info.

Apprentices will work together to create a short documentary film.
At the end of the program they will have completed a film to publish online, to send to local leaders, and to send to festival competitions. The film will be screened at 2023 Fall Fest presented by Action Youth Media and at the 2024 Montgomery County Youth Media Festival.

Apprentices must be available for the entire term and participate in the required program hours.

The online application includes:
•A letter of purpose stating your reasons for participating in the program, what relevant experience or training you have if any, what you hope to achieve from the experience, and how you would contribute to the team. (300-700 words)
•2 school teacher references that we will contact if you are chosen for an interview. Please make sure that your teachers know you are listing them.
