All applications must be submitted online. We will not accept applications or related materials via email, postal mail, or in person.
Apprenticeships (Advanced Beginner)
July 11 through August 11, 2022
Apprentice candidates must be in grade 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12.
Candidates must have completed beginner training in their chosen job category. ( at school, at a job, or online)
Pay is $15 per hour.
Apprenticeships are 4 hours per day, Monday through Thursday
GB Youth Media is a non-profit organization that creates communities where young people build the confidence and media skills to express themselves and to promote community building, multi-cultural understanding, and the common good. www.youthmediamd.org for more info.
Working at GBYM this summer, students will learn about developing and presenting digital media for the public, focused on documentary short film. Both interns and apprentices will receive training and ongoing guidance in their chosen role: research, writing, scripts, film editing, lighting, sound, graphic design, photography, and more.
Students will research and create original works of media art in a way that is relevant, engaging, and accessible. At the end of the program they will have completed a film to publish online, to send to local leaders, and to send to festival competitions. The film will be screened at 2022 Fall Fest presented by GB Youth Media.
*All interns and apprentices receive a pay of $15.00 per hour that is subject to all applicable taxes.
Parent/Guardian permission to participate is required.
Apprentices must be available for the entire term and participate in the required program hours. They must complete all projects in tandem with their fellow students and teachers.
The online application includes:
•A letter of purpose stating your reasons for participating in the program, what relevant experience or training you have if any, what you hope to achieve from the experience, and how you would contribute to the team. (300-700 words)
•2 academic or career references that we will contact if you are chosen for an interview. Please make sure that your references know you are listing them.
