We are seeking film, graphic design, communication, and written composition educators for our numerous after-school programs for middle and high school students. In-house teacher training sessions covered and required.

Summer Teaching Job at Gandhi Brigade Youth Media, Silver Spring, MD

 

Temporary Position Available: Teaching Artist in Media Production

DATES: July 1st to August 8th, 2020

Application deadline: April 15, 2020

Salary: $25/hour, maximum 30 hours per week

Location: Gandhi Brigade Youth Media Headquarters, 900 Wayne Ave., Silver Spring, MD

 

Must be available Monday through Thursday 10:30am-5:30pm with potential for evening shoots on some days.

 

GB Youth Media teaches young people how to research and report on social justice and civic issues through film and other media projects. With GB Youth Media these young students find their voices, learn valuable digital media and research skills, develop as leaders, and produce pieces that they publish on the GB Youth Media YouTube Channel. GB Youth Media teaching artists travel to numerous neighborhood libraries across the County to teach every week, in addition to teaching at our Silver Spring headquarters. Our priorities are racial and economic equity throughout our programs and in all of the choices we make as an organization.

 

GBYM is looking for a documentary filmmaker to serve as a co-instructor for our summer documentary program. The teaching artist will assist with running a 5 week long summer program for high school students, teaching and guiding the students through the process of producing an 8-10 minute documentary.

 

Responsible for planning and executing lessons in documentary pre-production, cinematography, lighting, interviewing, editing

 

Absolutely Required

Expertise with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Premiere Pro

Expertise with Canon DSLR cameras

Comfortable discussing controversial social justice issues & political issues with high school students in a professional & open-minded manner

We need candidates who can jump right in and hit the ground running.

 

Highly Preferred

Teaching/coaching/instructional experience

Experience working at a media/video production company OR experience as a freelance DP and/or editor

Experience specifically with documentary filmmaking

 

 

Minimum education

Undergraduate degree

 

 

Must submit to a background check
