Job Type: Full-time preferred. However, highly qualified candidates interested in serving part-time will be considered. This position is exempt.

AYM seeks an exceptional Executive Director interested in arts, education, social justice, and youth development to lead our team and drive our mission forward.

 

Position Overview: As the Executive Director of AYM, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our organization and the lives of the youth we serve. You will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, developing a vision for fundraising success, managing day-to-day operations, building community partnerships, and ensuring the successful implementation of our programs.

 

This position reports to the AYM Board of Trustees and requires working select weekends, evenings, and holidays. Additionally, the incumbent must undergo a full background check.

Spring 2024 Internship

Are you passionate about making a difference through storytelling and want to earn up to 32 SSL hours? Join Action Youth Media's Internship Program and take your media arts skills to the next level! This is not just an internship; it's an opportunity to be part of a movement that harnesses the power of media to address critical social justice issues. The final project will be submitted into festivals and showcased in our annual Season Showcase.

Action Youth Media (AYM) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering the youth through creative expression and media literacy. Our headquarters, nestled in downtown Silver Spring, MD, within the Silver Spring Library, serves as a vibrant hub for after-school and summer programs.

  • Program Duration: March 5-April 23 (8 weeks, 16 sessions)

  • Days and Time: Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 4:00pm-6:00pm

NOTE: This is an paid internship. Students receive work experience, portfolio building and a $15/hr stipend for their work. 

Summer Teaching Jobs at Action Youth Media, Silver Spring, MD

 

Temporary Position Available: Teaching Artist in Media Production

DATES: July 1st to August 8th, 2024

Application deadline: April 15, 2024

Salary: based on length of class and experience, starting at $50/hr

Location: Gandhi Brigade Youth Media Headquarters, 900 Wayne Ave., Silver Spring, MD

 

Must be available Monday through Thursday 10:30am-5:30pm with potential for evening work on some days.

 

Action Youth Media teaches young people how to research and report on social justice and civic issues through film and other media projects. With AYM these young students find their voices, learn valuable digital media and research skills, develop as leaders, and produce pieces that they publish on the AYM YouTube Channel. AYM teaching artists travel to the Montgomery Country neighborhood libraries, in addition to teaching at our Silver Spring headquarters. Our priorities are racial and economic equity throughout our programs and in all of the choices we make as an organization.

 

AYM is looking for a documentary filmmaker to serve as a co-instructor for our summer documentary program. The teaching artist will assist with running a 5 week long summer program for high school students, teaching and guiding the students through the process of producing an 8-10 minute documentary.

 

Responsible for planning and executing lessons in documentary pre-production, cinematography, lighting, interviewing, editing

 

Required:

Expertise with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Premiere Pro

Expertise with Canon DSLR cameras

Comfortable discussing controversial social justice issues & political issues with high school students in a professional & open-minded manner

We need candidates who can jump right in and hit the ground running.

 

Highly Preferred:

Teaching/coaching/instructional experience

Experience working at a media/video production company OR experience as a freelance DP and/or editor

Experience specifically with documentary filmmaking

Minimum education

Undergraduate degree or commensurate experience

 

Must submit to a background check

Fall Teaching Jobs - Seeking Media Artists and High School Education Specialists

We are expanding our teaching team! 

We are seeking film, graphic design, communication, and written composition educators for our numerous after-school programs for middle and high school students. In-house teacher training sessions covered and required. 

Fall 2024 begins September 9th.
